Decluttering continues

It has been awhile - but boy have I been busy.

The great wheel just went to its new home a few minutes ago. The loft is official empty - time for the walls to be ripped down for new insulation to go in to make this space wonderful as a nursery. It is right off our bedroom so the baby will be close in the middle of the night come this August/September!

Starting to think about getting the dogs ready for the new addition - any suggestions?

Great Wheel

Prior to Christmas (last post) I mentioned I'm looking for a home for my great wheel. Something happened to my ad on the wonderful Housecleaning pages and I'm just getting around to place it for sale again. Thought I'd reprint my ad here in case it disappeared again so I can just copy and paste it back up. My husband thinks I'm going to regret selling it so perhaps he sabotaged my first ad. That is actually kind of sweet - but I don't think that is what happened.

Antique Walking Wheel in need of a good home. Asking $250 - it is functional - needs perfect alignment to spin as there is no grove in the wheel. I've run out of space and time. Sadly wheel needs to go. Past owner had work done to miner's head. Wheel was demonstrated and photographed for article written by Jeannine Bakriges in Summer 2010 article in Spin-off. Good price even if you are just looking for a decorative piece.

It lives in Southern Vermont and I would be willing to travel roughly from Burlington, VT to Hartford, CT to deliver it email me for arrangements. Sorry, not willing to travel so someone can try it out.

I know I just used this picture in the last post but it is taken by Jenny :)

I think that is fair about the traveling - if I'm going to take the time to deliver it - it needs to be someone that is committed to buy. Gee - I think I might go spin some cotton on it right now :) Then I need to do some weaving and carding followed by much to do on Brooks Memorial Library's website today.

The sun is shinning and it is above freezing! Haven't seen that in a while and it is just me and the dogs today.

The Beginning of my Journey of Decluttering

This past March we had an architect, Donald Sherefkin, come out to the house to help us figure out ways to make an addition. We were not ready to start the additions but we didn't want to be improving gardens in areas where we inevitably might expand. We learned so much that day. Good things, funny things, a-ha things. If you live in Southern Vermont area I can not recommend Donald Sherefkin enough.

We will put an addition on someday - mainly because we don't have a bathroom on our sleeping level and as we age - this will become more important. Here is what I think the funny part of the discussion unveiled -- I would like a garage and my husband wants a bigger kitchen. This cracks me up as it is a stereotypical gender reversal. To make it unfunny I can explain why. I'm the one that gets bundled up and goes out to move the cars when the plow guy comes. I'm not sure why my husband doesn't care about this - the more we do this the bigger our driveway is all winter long. My husband wants a bigger kitchen as his family had restaurants as he was growing up. He believes he would cook more if he had a bigger kitchen. I personally love the size of our kitchen because everything is so close I can get things out and put things away so much faster. But I'm also for him cooking more often.

So we are several years away from being ready for the addition. I learned more things from Donald that day- my husband wanted a gaming room again and I need a weaving studio with better light. One day shortly there after he was at a seminar up in Burlington for the day. I took advantage of this day and took my Leclerc Nilas loom completely apart. I then lined the parts up at the bottom of the stairs and hired my lovely young neighbor to bring the pieces up a couple of flights to our bedroom. An hour later and she held some pieces together so I could begin the process of putting it back together. I've mentioned this in an earlier blog post when I was doing the finishing touches with my niece. I wasn't able to get everything set up the way I wanted to - but I did get the room completely emptied out - a clean slate for him.

Late summer my seven foot triangle loom came back home to live with me again - I had loaned it out to a friend. I use the looms more frequently so they stay but sadly the great wheel needs a new home. I just placed an add on the Spinner's and Weaver's Housecleaning Pages for the wheel. While I was at it I put my five pitch Indigo Hound English combs and my single pitch Louet mini combs up on the site. I think this in conjunction with my brother-in-law turning me on to Unclutter and my already following the financial practices of Dave Ramsey and my journey is off.to a less cluttered existence was successfully catapulted.

PS Leslie - I hear your voice in my head about you holding onto my English Combs - but really - this is what I want to do. Thank you anyway for your generous offer.

Appreciate what I had when I had it - didn't have to go out and get the newest things because I already had so much to work with what I had

My next step is to come up with actions that will help me achieve these goals. I highly recommend this thought provoking book. I have read other books that ask me to set goals and I usually get hung up there. This was just the question I needed to be asked to help set the goals. Now that the list is in writing it can be tweaked as necessary but will help me focus energy on my priorities. I can also go back to the other books and pick up where I left off then I can pass them on to their next owners.

This morning I finished plying my Natchwoolie Blue Hawaii!

Then my husband let me know he wanted to go out so I so I grabbed my cotton and my takhli from last night and was off in the truck spinning on bumpy dirt roads and eventually we made it to smooth ground. He was fine that ever minute or so my hand was streched out in front of his face - but every now and then I changed hands so that I wasn't constantly blocking his view of the roads.

I didn't make too much progress - but I filled the spindle on the way there and then I prepared to Andean ply and walked around a few stores with a funny little cotton bracelet. I plied it on the way back which didn't take very much time at all. Then I got very sleepy and I fell asleep. I got home and I was still sleepy - and I took a three hour nap (might be why I'm awake right now!)

When I woke up I went to ply the orange Spincerely dyed llama and the balls were too big to fit under my terra cotta plying pots. So I decided I should fix my ball winder. Two seconds later I was taking my balls and making nice little flat center pull balls that fit perfectly under my pots.

I made a center pull ball for the green Spincerely dyed llama.

I plied the two singles of the orange yarn and ended up again with two very full bobbins.

Then I navajo plied the green yarn.

Then I navajo plied the [Spincerely](/people/Spincerely) BFL - yummmmm

All the yarn I officially wanted to ply for the competition is done. I've not had a chance to calculate the measurements yet but I suspect I'll be able to get to that tomorrow.

I'm thinking next year I will just have to ply as I go so I can post things to the finished projects regularly. Although technically I've not finished any projects since I've not yet washed the yarn.

Tour de Fleece Day 22

This is all the yarn I had spun up to Day 22 all waiting to be plied with the exception of the cotton that I plied yesterday.

So I've never used a nostepinne before today. My guild's Fearless Leader, Alison, showed us a few weeks ago at guild social and with Youtube I somehow got caught up in it. Do I own one - no. But I was sitting there winding balls by hand when I knew I really wanted a center pull ball. I have a ball winder but on the day Lance fell three times it went south on me.

So I was sitting there looking at a beautiful Tudor family made beeswax candle and I thought, "Hmmm, I bet that will work." Sure enough it did. Thanks Alison for showing us. So that took a while and I guess it was what I needed to learn at the moment. What I also know is that I know how to fix my ball winder when it acts up. I've spent considerable time on the phone with the maker, Otto, a few years ago since I have an earlier version of the Strauch Jumbo ball winder. Otto has been great - he has sent me parts to upgrade it when necessary and has walked me through all the tweaks. I love tinkering and fixing things. But today, I wanted a new skill. I'm inspired by Galia (TDF teammate) and her homemade solutions. Sure enough on Youtube there are several videos. The second one I found was using a wooden spoon. I like the candle very much and it may just end up in my fiber tool box.

Yesterday, I plied the thin spindle spun Spincerely dyed llama against some bulky natural colored llama and I love how it came out. Very fun. I had extra of the spindle spun so I andean plied the remainder.

Then I started to Navajo ply the Natchwoolie Blue Hawaii. I would have finished but my husband's birthday is today and well I don't eat most cake. He had several friends over yesterday so I got a brain storm to run out and buy him an icecream cake that he could share and it was such a hot day.

Saturday's progress

In the evening when watching the end of the second season of *True Blood* I did some cotton spinning on my Tahkli. I don't normally ply and do anything else so I can focus on my counting and not get distracted. Plus I normally let my singles relax for months if not years (see future posts soon as I have boxes of singles to ply . . . ) so I knew that it would need my full attention.

Then, hmph, no internet to post.

I'm psyched up for all the plying tomorrow! Even spent some time tonight emptying bobbins. I'm just hoping I'll be able to spin some of my June Phat Fiber box before the tour is over.

Tour de Fleece Day 19 and 20

I knew it was a day of rest - my interpretation - relax and spin - no photos, no posting.

I went with my co-workers kayaking yesterday afternoon and then to the local pub. I had a feeling I'd have a chance to spin - so I continued to work on my Golding spindle of llama fiber at the pub. Then I went home - did my library work :) and then watched an episode of *True Blood* to make my hubby happy. I continued to spin the milk, silk, bamboo.

Challenge day!

So today was the day to spin my Natchwoolie natural color cotton on the great wheel. There were two issues with this challenge. First - it was really hot in that room and second it wasn't that challenging. Fibers were slipping beautifully.

So after about 10 minutes I decided to adapt my challenge. I moved down to the cool basement and spun the cotton on my Louet - doable but more challenging than the great wheel. I wasn't quite done with the fiber that I'm spinning on my high speed bobbin so I emptied one of my regular bobbins. Perhaps that would have been a better use of my time on a rest day - clear the bobbins! I attached the short fibers to my leader and laced up my flyer and I was off! New goal to spin as long as I could drafting with my left hand (like I would have with the great wheel) making a consistent yarn that will make a nice two ply. Even with all that time - my bobbin is only about 1/4 full.

But I'm happy with the yarn and I was able to watch 4 episodes of *Bones* while I spun.

Tomorrow I'm going to try to finish the milk, silk, bamboo and the Golding drop spindle. Then the rest of the tour is dedicated to plying!

Tour de Fleece Day 18

I swapped my volunteer day this week with the Tour so I'll work on the library website tomorrow during the day of rest :)

Spincerely and I spun together via Skype tonight!

What fun! Nearly all our families were involved. Even her cat Snickerdoodle got into it! Of course Agent J is helping. Sure is lonely around here without (insert whimper) Agent J.

And I'm sure that Paco had nothing to do with it taking so long . . .

I watched a replay of the last 40 or so km of the race today. Lance was soooooo close to winning this stage. I liked the way when he realized he wasn't going to take it he let his teammate come in before him. I was a little sad to find out I am older than Lance though.

Oh and I've been promising exciting fiber news - I'll be attending The Northeast Handspinner's Association's Gathering in November and I got my first choice (and only choice) class! 1.5 days with Deb Menz! I can't wait - this is going to be amazing :)

Tour de Fleece Day 17

What a wonderful day! Very productive at work and I got to see some of my favorite people after work! A group of my friends - we call ourselves the Lunar Ladies as we used to meet once a month and it happened around the full moon. Now we still try to meet once a month but anywhere in the lunar cycle is is fine. It is hard juggling 5 hectic schedules and we make a point not to meet on guild nights as that group is very important to us all to.

We celebrated two birthdays--one belated May birthday and a very recent July birthday (note the lovely birthday crown) In the picture below we are oohing and aahing over June's PhatFiber box! This is very exciting to me as all the people that needed to see the box intact now have. I can and will start spinning it very very soon!

Spincerely was represented there - Jenny bought Leslie yarn for her birthday from my sister. Now, I saw my Spincerely just yesterday and it must have been killing her not to tell me about what she did for and with my friends! Of course, Spincerely did what she does best and put extra goodies in the package :)

My Olympus is still not quite functional but Leslie was good enough to take some shots with my iPhone. She had fun taking pictures so I had a lot to choose from. I selected this one of me spinning as I think it captures the way I feel around my friends - very very happy :) This picture also embodies just how difficult it was for me to not smile for an entire week!

When I came home my husband and I watched the second show of the second season of *True Blood* and I continued to spin my Natchwoolie Blue Hawaii. I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish it tomorrow or not - I hope so - it is my volunteer night and I have much to do for updates on Brooks Memorial Library's website that I maintain. I will get some spinning in and I'm enjoying it soooooo much! I'm spinning this milk/bamboo blend from the fold and it is coming out soooooo very smooth.

I love reading about my teammates projects - you ladies are such inspiration.

Tour de Fleece Day 16

What a great day - my spinning started on the river with Spincerely. I had some short llama fibers left from when I was color blending with my english combs and diz on the Spincerely dyed dehaired llama. Since I was on the river I thought it was best not to use my Golding spindle project and I brought my louet drop spindle and worked on my Navajo ply on the fly spinning. I'm still not much faster but it will take time to get used to this technique. Especially since I don't normally spin "live" singles to boot.

So my waterproof (not water resistant) camera did not fair well as the day progressed. Lots of really great shots lost and can't show my improvement on my Blue Hawaii right now - I'm enjoying this Natchwoolie blend quite a bit. I imagine I'll be done with the singles by Monday evening. Despite my frustration I will try again in the morning.

What a productive day!

This morning my niece assisted me in putting my loom back together. A few months ago I totally dissembled it to move it from one floor to another. The braking system came to me rusted and I really wanted to tackle that before putting it entirely back together. So armed with steel wool and bands we went to work on the breaking system.

Then we worked on aligning the harnesses and treadles - I can tweak it some more when the warp is on it but I'm ready to weave again - well as soon as the TDF is over anyways.

We went kayaking and saw:

2 geese
2 ducks
Lots of fish, dragonflies, damselflies, red winged blackbirds
1 swan
1 turtle
1 great blue heron that startled us both and we both jumped in our kayaks when if dropped out of a tree right in front of us and made its hideous call has it flew away from us. In all fairness we probably startled it as much as it startled us.

We even found time to garden.

I spun while we were watching episodes of her new favorite show, Bones - second only to NCIS.

I finished the singles of the dehaired llama :)

I'm now spinning Natchwoolie's Blue Hawaii Indigo dyed milk/bamboo blend! I'm so happy :)

Still working on the Spincerely dyed dehaired llama fibers. Was a little careless in my spinning yesterday so it will be interesting to see how this bobbin comes out. I feel icky (why I didn't post yesterday) and it was most definitely reflected.

On the bright side the basket is almost empty - which will mean I can move on to my new Natchwoolie Indigo dyed milk blend - I'm so excited. I should feel better by the time I get to that :)

Although I spun yesterday I took the pictures today and am keeping this brief as I'm taking my niece kayaking and I want to make it back early enough to spin :)

Oh - but wait - I wanted to share one more thing. The high school I work at actually teaches fiber arts and the Fiber Arts Teacher brought over a piece of work from one of the summer programs students - Melissa, the instructor, plied copper wire and the student wove the piece of fabric below. It is going to be made into a book bag. The picture was taken yesterday on my iPhone and it doesn't even come close to capturing the beauty of the piece.

Did more work on the Spincerely dyed! Bobbin is getting much closer to full.

at the River Spinners Guild Social tonight. It was hosted by my very good friend Jenna of Dye Flower Farm in her dye barn. It was too late to take pictures of her beautiful gardens which are especially amazing given that she spends all her time tending to other peoples gardens.

Oh and I had soooo much fun sharing my Phat Fiber box! I think it was new to everyone. Two more people to show how pretty it is and then I can start playing with it.

A dear friend commented on my blog that I was spinning with a Golding spindle over cement - well - this time I'm over pavement! lol - luckily it did not drop either time. I usually am more careful but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do to keep up with the Tour right?

The other two hours was watching a movie Independence Day with the special package (my lovely niece) and my wonderful husband. They, of course, thought it was funny that I fell asleep - right at the good part.

Making progress on the basket of nectarine fiber too! I'll take a better photo with my camera tomorrow the above is just a quick shot before bed with my iPhone.

After the first hour I decided to have a piece of fruit - I was holding it for all of two seconds and just as I took the knife to it and wow did that nectarine look like my fiber or what?

Most of my spinning time we were watching a netflix movie, *My Fake Fiancée* that was, well a good spinning movie - didn't require much attention at all!

Here is my progress by the end of the night - not a dent in the basket of fiber!

Day 9! (stage 8 - I'm a little confused)

Finished the first 4.5 oz batt from Spincerely's Merino/Bamboo/Nylon roving.

I'm not quite sure what happened but my ball winder was not cooperating and I took my own spill (3 times) I spent two hours (not counting above) emptying the bobbin! What a mess. I wish I could have just fixed it without spending so much time being frustrated. You know it's not like I spent two hours handling something course or worse smelly. This was soft and smooth but still I couldn't help thinking that I could be plying right now!

I spent two hours doing fiber prep which I know doesn't count but it made me happy!

Color Blending on English combs.

Since I don't have a hackle and I needed to blend some of these intense colors that Spincerely dyed for me to my specifications - I had alwasy intended to blend them but on a drum carder with naturally colored fibers. I was playing with my diz and thinking that I would much rather have a blend that would produce a more worsted vs. woolen yarn so I went up to my studio and got out my deadly English Combs.

I lashed on several of the warm colors, brought the ends down to a point. Jenny Bakriges always refered to this as a goats beard. Pocked it through one of the larger slots in my diz. and . . .

gradually pulled the fibers through alternating my hand position when pulling from top to bottom to side to side.

I then made a basketful of pretty little bird nests.

Can't wait to start spinning this! I believe Monday is a day of rest for the race so I'll start in on this basket on Tuesday. If I can hold off on testing one . . .

Holy Phat Fiber, Batman!

First off [Spincerely](/people/Spincerely) and I spun together while watching the Tour de France in her living room :) Where I did 15 minutes on my drop spindle. This is the first time I have ever seen Tour de France ever!

Then Spincerely gave me another early birthday present - more of her Spincerely Natural organic line! Yum! and she also gave me . . . .

My very first, very own Phat Fiber Box! Ok [Phatfiberlady](/people/PhatFiberlady) I'm hooked!

Then I went next door and spun for two hours while hanging out with my dad with the brand new fiber I just bought from Spincerely - 60% sw merino/30% bamboo/10% nylon. I bought the entire 1++ lbs if this "to be named" color way. I'm hoping to come up with a creative name for it to help her out. I figured if I bought it all, that would buy me some more time! I love that there are so many different ways to spin a space dyed roving - this time I decided it would be fun to use the method that [PhatFiberLady] (person) used in her day 1 video. I didn't strip down the little sections as much as I typically do a long draw and I get mesmerized watching the fibers fall into the drafting triangle - but it is a cool technique.

It will end up being a two ply yarn that I will likely weave with. Spincerely would really like to see it become a sweater but I don't thing that is likely.

Our dad came back with me to Spincerely's house where he watched me spin some more and Spincerely joined in when she wasn't preparing dinner. When I called to let him know I was back in my home state later that evening he made a point to tell me how much he enjoyed watching us spin together.

Finally, when I got back home I was ecstatic to find my purchase from Natchwoolie - Which was just as beautiful as I anticipated.

All but the bamboo mix will be remaining in it's packaging and untouched until my Thursday River Spinners guild meeting where I plan to show off all of it's fibery goodness and make everyone drool. The only problem with this is I will create more competition in getting future Phat Fiber boxes.

It was an excellent day on the Tour! Hope it was for you too!

Busy busy day - I hope Friday was the least amount of spinning I will do during the entire Tour - but so worth it - after a full day of work I drove to meet Spincerely pick her up and go see Jack Johnson! How awesome is that. I met her at Subways and that is where I fit in 10 minutes of spindle spinning. Same llama fiber dyed by Spincerely

I found my wrist distaff the other day when I was looking for my wpi tool. I’m sure it is in a bag with a project somewhere… .

I was able to spin for 1/2 hour today - had a hard time sitting still. Came home and needed to clean. By the time I was ready to spin I was ready for bed. I spun for about a half hour and then I fell asleep - not a spin while you sleep kind of sleep - a fall over dead to the world for a couple of hours sleep. Now, I’m awake again after running around the house looking for my wpi tool. I never did find it, which makes me sad, as it was a gift from Celia Quinn. I’m pretty sure it will show up and on the positive note I found my fringe maker which was missing while I was l looking for the wpi tool. (note to self - stop moving your studio to different spaces and use up your stash)

Regardless, I have a ruler, so I measured my two current spinning projects - both are Spincerely dyed dehaired llama from the late Milagra

I was going to do an hour on the drop spindle but when I got home from work my dogs were hot so I gave Paco (the long haired Chihuahua) a bath to help him cool off. Cider is the short haired Chihuahua and she was panting - but she didn’t need a bath - she was still sun bathing even with the heat.

We finished up the Lord of the Rings Trilogy tonight so it allowed me a good 3 hours of wheel spinning done.

So this is more of the same Spincerely dyed dehaired llama.

Still thinking about what to do with the other 1.8 lbs …

Had so much fun chatting with my team mates last night - but I’ve got to get some zzz’s tonight. I only feel asleep 4 or 5 times at the wheel before the movie was over.

Today is my Spiniversary! I had my first lesson from Jenny Bakriges on this day 7 years ago with my husband! Pretty sure that was the end of spinning for him - but I was another story.

So happy to be celebrating it with Team Phat! As part of my celebration I purchased some lovely cotton and some milk blend fibers from Natchwoolie! Spincerely was very helpful in hooking me up with a PhatFiber with cotton so I could spin it during the tour. I love cotton! I can’t wait to get it!

So tonight I spent 1 lovely hour spinning on my golding drop spindle

I like to use my feet to keep the spindle going - trick I picked up from Barbara Clorite-Ventura’s dvd Spindles around the World.

Here are the results of today’s spindle spinning over yesterday’s.

Then I started my quest to find my Spincerely dyed dehaired llama fibers. It was in about the 7th box I opened - so only about 1/2 hour lost to locating and weighing it. 2 lbs of luscious fibers.

Hmmm, I had lots of plans to blend this fiber with other things - I’m going to have to give this some thought about what I want to do with it.

So a few photos to show for what I did during my 3 hours of Lord of the Rings spinning tonight. Did you ever notice how some of the elfin jewelry looks like a ply back?

Above is what I started with tonight. Natural dehaired llama fibers (The late Bailey and Milagra) along with yummy Spincerely dyed that I carded. I packaged them up together years ago - but have not been able to spin it (long story.) I'm grateful for these positive circumstances to allow me this opportunity :)

So my plan was to spin the natural brown in worsted weight singles - high energy on the Louet.

This is Paco laying next to me as I spin this from the fold. I finished all the brown in about 1 hour - bobbin was quite full.

A lot of color was shoved in that bag …

I spent the next two hours spinning it on my favorite Golding Spindle.

Plan of attack for tomorrow - Go to work, then locate more Spincerely fiber in my stash - do some shopping from PhatFiberLady contributors for next week’s spinning and for the challenging day. Continue to spin the Spincerely llama on the Golding Ring Drop Spindle.

Tour de Fleece Day 1

I spun about three hours yesterday - I finished a braid of Spincerely superwash blue faced leicester. I had started it the day before as I was confused on the start day (oops). I really enjoyed the instructional video from PhatFiberLady that I just watched. I wanted to keep my colorsways intact as well - but I took a different approach. No predrafting at all - not even fluffing it more than it came to me. I grazed back and forth off the top. I started spinning out on the deck - took some before shots so you could see how much was on the bobbin to begin with.

Then I moved down to the basement to watch a movie named Tenure (what was up with the big foot storyline?) with my husband. I told him I was part of a team spinning competition and he said, “Cool!” I spin in the dark all the time when we watch movies so it is not quite pitch black. Confession: sometimes I fall asleep - but my hands know what to do - right! The movie finished and I was bound and determined to finish the braid and I did. I used a short forward draft at a distance.

Not quite a full bobbin.

I will probably Navajo ply it - so here is a ply back.

I don’t normally take pictures of my spinning so I imagine that will improve over the course of the TDF. I set up a Picasa account today so this should be quicker in the future.

Tour de Fleece

I'm partaking in a spinning competition that plays off of the Tour de France. I'm part of a team (Go Team Phat) that my sister Spincerely is on and it is filled with very talented spinners. Part of the process is checking in daily with progress and there is a separate place to post finished projects. It is day 5 and I will attempt to put my daily progress in my blog. The photo album below will be updated daily with the addition of new pics. I'll also try to get in and include captions on the photos if time permits.

The Tour de Fleece is not new but it is new to me - prior to Friday I've never heard of it. It is residing on Ravelry but you can follow peoples progress on Twitter too if you search on #tourdefleece

An Adaptation of Blueberry Yogurt Fool

Described as an "old-fashioned English Dessert" changed into a smoothie

Serves: 2+
Ingredients:

1.5 pints blueberries (frozen is best - if not frozen add a few ice cubes) [mine were hand picked by me]
1-2 tbsp local honey
Juice of .5 limes
5 fresh mint leaves plus a sprig for each glass as a garnish [freshly picked from our garden]
1 cup thick fat free greek-style yogurt (since this is a smoothie any style yogurt will work) [home made thanks to my Yogotherm with Chobani as my starter]

(Among some of the changes I omitted from original - pistachios and heavy cream so my version has considerably less calories than the original)

Stick it all in your Vitamix, start on low turn up the speed until high - just until everything is blended evenly - feel sides - if not cool add a few ice cubes and turn off.

Split amongst 2-3 glasses and add garnish.

Yum!

I've been trying to think of a good way to keep track of recipes I use. I was thinking about just putting them in Evernote, (coolest organizing tool ever - I have the professional version -but you can get it free and there are add-ons for most browsers) but I use that to list recipes I've used and intend to use. I suppose I could tag them differently, but I usually share the recipes I like - So I think I'm just going to blog about them. I started with a minor amount of Googling and liked the below info I found on The Food Blog Alliance.

The rules that most cookbook authors and food writers follow are these:

1. If you're modifying someone else's recipe, it should be called "adapted from".

2. If you change a recipe substantially, you may be able to call it your own. But if it's somewhat similar to a publisher recipe, you should say it's "inspired by", which means that you used else's recipe for inspiration, but changed it substantially.

3. If you change three ingredients, you can in most instances call the recipe yours.

Recently I've had some pretty major dental work so I've just be eating mushy stuff. I'm trying to keep it interesting since this is going to last a while. I can't talk or show emotion so I'm using all that extra time to work on decluttering - inspired by one of my favorite blogs Unclutterer which I was turned on to by my wonderful brother-in-law, IHA. My current project is getting rid of the stacks of magazines I have laying around. Just for clarification, I have seen stacks of magazines and this is more of a kids side order size versus that of the main course.

How did I acquire all these magazines? I have an amazing group of local and dear friends and we like to get together monthly. We usually swap things when we get together. The magazines I get are discards from the local library and from their personal subscriptions. The magazines are intended to be rotated amongst our group and then passed on when we are done with them. Some magazines only come to me last because I tend to be the slowest at circulating them but also one of the fastest to light up when I see the cover and all the goodness that are inside. I scan through the magazines and read the crap and put little sticky notes on the things I want to come back to. So yesterday and today - I'm dealing with all the little stickies and this month they will be passed on. Except the Mary Jane's Farm magazines - those end with me. Let's see if I can pass those on next month to either the group or someone else. It is all about sharing knowledge and recycling!
